Hi {{first_name | there}},

New numbers are out, and they're worth paying attention to if you run a general contracting business.

Houzz just published its 2026 Home Study, and general contractors are now the most commonly hired professional in remodeling, brought on by 29 percent of renovating homeowners. That's more than twice the rate of builders at 13 percent, and well ahead of kitchen and bath remodelers at 8 percent.

I don't think that shift is about GCs suddenly getting better at the trade. It's about homeowners wanting one person who can own the whole project instead of managing five different specialists themselves. That's a trust decision, and trust decisions get made before anyone picks up the phone.

Here's the part most GCs are missing. NAHB's Remodeling Market Index has stayed above the break-even point of 50 for 24 straight quarters, meaning the demand is there and it's not slowing down. Full report here: NAHB Remodeling Growth Forecast. Homeowners are actively looking for someone to hand the whole project to. The question is whether that someone looks like you online before they ever call.

This is where a lot of GC marketing falls flat. A homepage with stock photos of a hard hat and a tape measure doesn't answer the actual question a homeowner has, which is whether you can be trusted to run their kitchen gut job start to finish without disappearing for three weeks mid-project.

What answers that question is proof. Real before and after photos from your last three jobs. A homeowner quote about how you communicated during the project, not just how the finished space looks. A simple page that walks through what working with you actually looks like week to week.

None of that is complicated to build. Most GCs already have the raw material sitting in their phone. They're just not turning it into anything a homeowner can find.

If you're not sure whether your online presence is answering the "can I trust this person to run my project" question, that's worth a real look before you spend another dollar on ads chasing leads who never had a reason to pick you over the next GC on the list.

Hit reply and I’m happy to discuss if I can help.
